Focus exercises

Being able to focus means that you can set clear goals and work eagerly to achieve those goals. However, being able to focus differs from being able to concentrate. While ‘focus‘ is mainly about achieving a goal, ‘concentration‘ is about the short-term actions that you undertake for this. For example, meeting a deadline can be your focus. This focus motivates you to concentrate on the report that needs to be written to meet the deadline. As you can see, focus and concentration go hand in hand.

When you cannot focus properly, it becomes more challenging to achieve your goal, and eventually, you lose your motivation. In addition, a lack of focus is often accompanied by stress and anxiety. So, if you are suffering from a lack of focus, it is time to get started with some focus exercises!

Exercises to increase focus

There are several exercises to increase focus. First of all, try to write down your goals. By doing this and keeping the list within sight, you constantly remind yourself of your goals. Did you set a goal that might be too big for you to reach within a reasonable amount of time? Break it down by creating smaller milestones.

It is also advisable to do visualization exercises. During this process, neural pathways are created that make your brain think you actually are performing that action. When you want to do visualization exercises, find a quiet place and relax. Close your eyes and begin to breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Now think of a situation in the future that you would like to achieve. For example, successfully participating in an important sports event. Observe how this feels. Use all your senses and take in all the details. Not only does this make you feel better prepared for the actual event, but it also helps against nerves and reduces anxiety.

Lastly, practice concentration exercises as often as you can. Without a fair amount of concentration, you are not able to complete the tasks you need to do to achieve the goal you have set for yourself. Examples of concentration exercises are working out and meditation.

Focus exercises and the Wim Hof Method

Focus and commitment are crucial aspects of the Wim Hof Method. In fact, they form one of the three pillars that make up the foundation. Thanks to his method, Wim has achieved many extraordinary goals, such as running a half marathon barefoot and standing in a container filled with ice cubes for no less than 112 minutes. All of this would not have been possible without the necessary mindset and focus exercises.

Practice the Wim Hof Method

In addition to the earlier mentioned focus exercises, the Wim Hof Method also helps to get an increased level of focus. You learn to improve your concentration through meditation exercises, and through the special breathing exercises, you get more energyless stress, and an increased influence on your nervous system. All of which are useful if you are working on your focus levels. Get to know the method through one or more of our video courses!

The three pillars

Besides commitment, the Wim Hof Method leans on two more pillars: cold therapy and breathing exercises. When you combine these pillars, a cascade of benefits becomes available for you to experience. For instance, many practitioners report having better sleeppositive stress, and faster recovery from exercise.
