what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
A theory about the challenges of mankind's future claims that “the west” will be impaired by comfort. We are used to living without physical challenges, and this way of life is weakening the immune system. When medicine and technology get rid of some illnesses, others appear - an individual living a 100 years ago would most likely not understand illnesses such as diabetes or depression. For most of our ancestors, everyday was a fight for survival. There is quite an amount of research and individual practices that demonstrate how consciousness can influence quality of people's life for better or for worse. Unfortunately, the human is naturally lazy and if he can avoid excessive challenges, he will. That is why a pill is more popular that physical activity, and eating sweets is more usual than intermittent fasting. There is a proverb: delicious medicines do not heal. Every positive outcome requires effort and some sort of discomfort.
I grew up watching my mother go to a frozen lake for a quick swim almost every morning. Decades later, when I was accidently introduced to the concepts of Wim Hof, they did not seem extreme, but incredibly attractive and reasonable, as they are backed up by scientific research and strong theories. Being in my late 50s, I understood my physical condition depends almost entirely on me. So I literally dived into the method, finished the training, and, of course, stopped using warm water entirely:) I am eager to share what I found out with people across my country (Lithuania) and beyond.
