From 6 to 11 December, Wim Hof travels to Swedish Lapland for a five-day winter expedition based at Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Åre, in Sweden’s Jämtland region. The program combines daily Wim Hof Method sessions with hikes across frozen lakes and waterfalls, set against a landscape known for its Northern Lights displays.

Åre sits in the same part of Scandinavia where Wim Hof ran a barefoot half marathon in the snow, the feat documented in the Discovery Channel film Real Superhumans that first brought him wider recognition as “the Iceman.” This expedition returns to similar terrain, pairing structured breathing and cold exposure with unguided time in the surrounding wilderness.

What the days in Åre look like: breathing sessions, ice baths, and mountain hikes

Each day follows a mix of guided and open-air activity: breathing sessions, ice baths, a mountain hike, and time at frozen lakes and waterfalls. Sauna and spa sessions are built into the schedule as a counterpoint to the cold work. Cold exposure is introduced gradually and remains optional throughout — participants set their own pace rather than working to a fixed target.

The group format is a deliberate part of the design. Past participants have pointed to the group itself — arriving as strangers and, by the end of five days, describing something closer to old friends — as one of the more lasting parts of the trip.

Accommodation at Copperhill Mountain Lodge: sauna, spa, and shared apartments in Jämtland

Copperhill Mountain Lodge is a design hotel built almost entirely from wood, with the mountain immediately outside the door. Its Level Spa looks out over the Jämtland mountains, with heated indoor and outdoor pools, saunas, and relaxation areas — recognised as one of the best spas in Europe.

The group stays here, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included across the five nights, alongside full access to the lodge’s spa and sauna facilities.

Solo travelers and friends share a four-person apartment: one bedroom with a separable double bed, a second with a wooden bunk, plus a kitchenette and shared bathroom. Male-female couples are placed in a smaller one-bedroom apartment. A limited number of private rooms are available at an additional cost for those who need them — worth requesting directly if that applies.

Getting to Åre: flights via Trondheim and the transfer schedule

The nearest airport is Trondheim (TRD) in Norway, with direct flights from cities including Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Oslo, Frankfurt, and London. From Trondheim, it’s just over two hours to the lodge by car or bus.

An airport transfer can be booked for €35 each way, timed around arrival on Sunday 6 December at 18:00, and departure on Friday 11 December, with options at 06:00 or 11:00. Transfer details and payment links are sent after booking.

Who can join the Winter Expedition: Sweden, and what to know before registering

The expedition is open to all levels, from first-time participants to experienced practitioners. A moderate level of fitness and general good health are enough to take part comfortably; anyone with a serious health condition — stroke history, epilepsy, or recent surgery among them — is advised to check with a doctor before registering. The minimum age is 16, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All sessions, including cold exposure, are led by Wim Hof and the team on-site, with cold immersion staying gradual and optional throughout.

Other experiences with Wim Hof: upcoming weekends in the Netherlands and Australia

Beyond the Winter Expedition, Wim Hof is also leading two shorter weekend formats elsewhere on the calendar. The Wim Hof Weekend in Stroe runs 17–18 October, from 11:00 on the Saturday to 17:00 on the Sunday, set in the forested Veluwe region of the central Netherlands. A second edition takes place at Wilsons Creek, in the subtropical hinterland behind Byron Bay, Australia, on 23–24 January, running from 09:30 to 20:00. Both are two-day formats held in English, offering a shorter way into the Method for anyone not ready for a full winter expedition.
