This is a very healthy reaction :-) In the past we lived outside and the cold was a big danger, your brain is still set to that mode and protected you for danger.
We do not seek danger with the method, but it is outside the comfort zone for most people. Your mind quickly indicates that that is not a good idea.
In the modern world we have heating, warm clothes and we have less physical challenge, no challenge means no need to become stronger and healthier.
Breathing is the most important thing we do, but try to do something else first and when you are ready to breathe. Breathing is the key to your autonomic nervous system.
If you can monitor your breathing, you will learn what you are (quiet, stressed), by adjusting it you can also influence yourself.
